In Genesis 13:14, the Bible says that after Lot departed from Abraham, God spoke to Abraham: “Lift up your eyes from where you are… As far as your eyes can see, I will give to you.”
And again: “Walk through the land… wherever your feet shall tread upon, I will give to you.” There are key issues here.
Lift Up Your Eyes
Your eyes represent your vision, perspective, expectation, dreams, and future aspirations.
Lot had just separated from Abraham. It looked like a loss. Lot chose the fertile land of Sodom. Abraham may have felt cheated. He may have felt the pain of separation.
But God said: Lift up your eyes.
Lift up your eyes from: The loss of your parents, a child, or spouse Divorce
The property your wife has taken from you in the US or Europe
Children taken away from you A man who abandoned you. Your current employment
Your salary
Your denomination
Your pastor
The problems in Nigeria
Lift up your eyes and see.
As far as your eyes can see — the vision you can conceive — you can receive.
I lifted up my eyes from the poverty around me.
From illiteracy.
From the ghetto.
From my limitations and deficiencies.
And I saw a vision.
I was thinking about Victor Osimhen. He once hawked sachet water in Lagos. But he lifted up his eyes beyond hawking to becoming a global footballer.
It does not mean you abandon where you are. It means you do what you are doing with the mindset of where you are going. Hawk differently. Preach differently. Run your school differently.
I was on the farm but seeing the world. I told myself: somebody somewhere will watch this and send for me. I was preaching in small places, sometimes treated shabbily, but I saw myself as a global man of God.
I even wrote “International Conference Speaker” behind my books before I ever left this country. That was where my eyes were.
Lift up your eyes from your present finances to the finances you desire. Declare it. Your subconscious hears. The world responds.
I buried my father and mother three weeks apart. I lost my brothers. I had children with challenges. I lifted up my eyes beyond the pain and saw them in the global arena.
Walk Through the Land
Vision is not enough. Put in the effort.
Walk the land.
The distance you want to go may require:
Waking up earlier
Sleeping later
Reading more than your mates
I read until my body ached. I bought books when I had no clothes. Second-hand books. Second-hand magazines. Because I was going somewhere.
If your wardrobe is bigger than your library, you are not serious.
Sometimes men remain small because they wait for approval. If I had waited for pastors around me to approve me, I would have been stagnated.
Lift up your eyes from confinement.
Lift up your eyes from comfort.
Lift up your eyes from limitations.
You are not a pigeon. You are an eagle.
Lift up your eyes from your age.
Do not say you are too old.
Age is just a number.
