A Person’s Sexuality Is Personal: Let’s avoid this unnecessary distraction. Focus on serious issues.

You cannot leave a house that is on fire and start pursuing cockroaches or rats. There are core issues—important national issues—that demand our attention, yet we often waste time on distractions.

Handle Issues Legally, Not Publicly

There are existing laws in this land concerning certain sexual orientations. If you have strong evidence against anyone and feel offended, take the evidence to the security agencies. Let the legal system handle it. There is no need to make it a public spectacle and disturb everyone else.

Similarly, if someone has a private tape with their partner, whether male or female, how does that concern the rest of us? Why should it become national news? People are obsessed with scandals instead of focusing on meaningful discussions that impact society.

Personal Lives Should Not Distract Us

I watch an international news network where two presenters are openly gay, yet that does not prevent me from getting my news from that channel. Likewise, a well-known computer company was co-founded by a man who was alleged to be gay. Has that stopped you from using their products? Why then should we fixate on people’s personal lives as if we are their pastors or judges?

It is essential to protect yourself and your children from negative influences, but carrying other people’s private lives on your head is unnecessary. In this country, we have far greater concerns.

What Truly Matters

Instead of focusing on personal issues, we should be discussing:

  • Hunger and poverty – People are struggling to afford basic meals.

  • Insecurity – Banditry, kidnapping, and violence are on the rise.

  • Economic instability – Our currency is losing value at an alarming rate.

  • Ritual killings and cultism – A young man recently took his nephew for money rituals.

  • Oppression by state agencies – Corruption is rampant in politics and the judiciary.

  • Fake drugs and substance abuse – Drug abuse is ruining lives daily.

Yet, instead of addressing these, we waste energy discussing people’s private choices.

A Nation on the Brink

Let me give an example: in Plateau State, herdsmen attacked a community, and in retaliation, a mosque was burnt. If such conflicts are not properly handled, they could escalate into full-blown religious or ethnic wars, just like what happened in Rwanda. If this country descends into chaos, nobody will have time to argue about sexuality or private scandals.

A Call to Focus

I urge our youths to concentrate on issues that truly matter. Our nation is sitting on a keg of gunpowder, and we cannot afford to be distracted by personal matters that do not contribute to national development.
