Mr Governor, You Are Very Insensitive, Sir | #Endbadgovernance

NIGERIAN POLITICIANS’ INSENSITIVITY

African politicians, particularly Nigerian ones, are often perceived as very insensitive. This insensitivity stems from the fact that many of them do not rely on our votes to remain in power. The judiciary and various agencies often assist them in securing their positions, sometimes contrary to the will of the people.

For instance, the governor of Ogun State referred to protesters and Nigerians as “sore losers.” This comment was directed at his own political supporters who are enduring hardship, as well as members of his tribe who also supported him and are now protesting. He claimed that President Tinubu won the elections and that those who voted for him outnumbered those who did not. This assertion is not true. If you combine the votes for Peter Obi and other political parties like the SDP, they surpass the votes for Tinubu. This means that those who did not want Tinubu are more numerous than those who did. Even among those who supported him, many are frustrated with his leadership.

How can such insensitivity persist, especially when you consider the terrible state of roads from Lagos to Abuja and the widespread hunger and deprivation people are experiencing? It is deeply insensitive for anyone in a position of relative comfort to make such remarks. This attitude will likely be regretted, as it will haunt those who perpetuate it. Nigerians are not sore losers; they are in deep pain, deprived, and humiliated. The situation has been exacerbated by the weaponization of poverty. It is disheartening to see such behavior, as people like Awolowo did not speak in this manner. Nigerians are justifiably angry, and we need to remember.

God bless Nigeria, and God bless our youth.

I remain your friend, Dr. Charles Apoki. You are my responsibility
