I am Dr. Charles Apoki. As I sip my ginger, honey, and cinnamon tea, I’m reflecting on the importance of planning for the future. If you haven’t started writing down your plans for the new year, you’re already behind.
1. Your Future Starts in Your Mind
The future begins in your thoughts. The Bible says, “As a man thinks in his heart, so he is.” Your meditations shape your reality. Start gathering inspiration—whether from your instincts, intuitions, or external sources—and write down your goals. Think deeply, review your life, and ask yourself:
- What didn’t I do well this year?
- How can I improve?
- Who do I need to connect with?
- What new opportunities should I pursue?
As you meditate on these questions, you manufacture your future.
2. Write Down Your Vision
The Bible encourages us to write down the vision, even if it tarries. Putting your goals on paper gives them life and direction. Write down:
- The names of people you want to meet.
- The places you want to visit.
- The milestones you aim to achieve.
Your written goals act as a roadmap for your journey.
3. Declare Your Goals
Speak your goals into existence. As your mouth declares, so it will be. David said, “Bless the Lord, O my soul,” even when his inner emotions were not aligned with praise. Declare your vision boldly, but be cautious about who hears it. Avoid sharing your dreams with individuals who may criticize, discourage, or undermine you.
4. Plan and Set Goals
The future begins today. What you achieve tomorrow depends on the decisions, dreams, and drive you cultivate now. If you fail to set goals, your year will be filled with:
- Holes of wasted time, resources, and opportunities.
- Regrets from a lack of daily, weekly, and monthly targets.
Define your objectives to refine your life. Clarity in your goals helps you filter out distractions and focus on what truly matters.
5. Daily, Weekly, and Monthly Targets
Break your goals into actionable targets. Plan your days, weeks, and months to ensure consistent progress. Without these targets, your year will lack structure, and you may miss opportunities.
6. Faith and Action
As you draw your plans, ask God to put His hand upon them. The Bible promises that God can do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine. Your role is to set the minimum expectations; God will exceed them.
7. Act Now
Procrastination is the enemy of productivity. Start now. The decisions you make today determine your tomorrow.
