You Can Never Get Justice in a World Where Criminals Make the Rules: Bob Marley

I am your friend, Dr. Charles Apoki. Bob Marley once said, “You can never get justice in a world where criminals make the rules.” I would take it further: You can never get justice where criminals enforce the rules, investigate cases, and prosecute offenders.

Justice is impossible in a society where criminals are celebrated by religious leaders, where we wait for them to arrive before Thanksgiving services can begin, and where they are given seats of honour that resemble thrones. How can we expect justice when our messages in places of worship are altered because a prominent criminal is in attendance?

We can never get justice in a system where lawmakers do not follow the laws they create. A country where someone who did not contest in the primaries is suddenly made a candidate, or where someone who did not win an election is installed as a senator and presides over cases in which he himself is the accused. Justice is impossible when the chairman of the Ethics Committee is a person debarred from legal practice in the United States of America.

Justice remains elusive in a world where the strong devour the weak, where criminals receive national honours, and where a traditional ruler is arrested as a criminal by the FBI. A nation cannot thrive when criminals win elections, go on holiday abroad, and then get rounded up like broiler chickens.

How can we expect justice when traditional rulers ascend their thrones through fraud and manipulation? When community leaders collaborate with oil companies to defraud their own people? Justice is unattainable when money becomes the god of both clergy and laity, when everything is measured by financial gain.

Our society has become one where criminals are welcomed home with celebrations, where their return is met with songs of praise rather than condemnation. It is sickening, frightening, and tragic.

Is There Hope for Us?

Can we still salvage this country? Can we rescue this generation? The words of Dele Farotimi ring true: A nation that celebrates criminals is doomed.

The poor man’s life is reduced to mere existence. What are his chances of success when the system is deliberately designed against him? It is heart breaking to see hardworking individuals fall under the weight of an unjust system, while criminals rise to prominence with ease.

Yet, there is hope. History shows us that many nations once grappled with gangsterism and corruption, including the United States, where the mafia controlled cities like Chicago and New York. But over time, sanity was restored. The world is not perfect, but change is possible.

A time will come when the people, pushed to their limits, will rise and demand justice. Sanity will be forced upon these houseflies and maggots who have feasted on the decay of our system.

A Call to Action

Our nation needs a radical overhaul. We need a reawakening of conscience, a return to integrity, and a rejection of criminal glorification. It starts with you and me.
