I want to share a message about consistency and overcoming obstacles. I’ve been reflecting on this for days, and I’ll use the story of Blind Bartimaeus from Mark 10:46-52 to illustrate the power of persistence in achieving your goals.
Bartimaeus was a blind beggar sitting by the roadside as Jesus and a large crowd were leaving Jericho. When he heard it was Jesus, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Despite the crowd rebuking him, he shouted even louder until Jesus stopped and called for him. Throwing aside his cloak, Bartimaeus came to Jesus, expressed his desire to see, and was healed immediately.
Key Lessons on Overcoming Challenges
Ignore the Crowd: Bartimaeus didn’t allow the crowd to discourage him. Similarly, there were already other schools before I started mine, other preachers before I began preaching, and other YouTubers before I began my channel. However, what others have done should not deter you from doing your own. You are here to create your own history, not to tell someone else’s story.
Consistency Requires Preparation: Bartimaeus likely anticipated meeting Jesus one day, and when the opportunity came, he seized it. Consistency works hand-in-hand with preparation, desire, and a clear objective. Without a goal, there is only stagnation.
Leverage Information, Inspiration, and Instinct: When Bartimaeus heard it was Jesus, he acted immediately. Information gave him awareness, inspiration drove his hope, and instinct led him to shout persistently. These elements are crucial in pushing forward despite opposition.
Specificity in Your Demand: When Jesus asked Bartimaeus what he wanted, he didn’t assume. Bartimaeus explicitly said, “I want to see.” You must clearly place a demand on life and define your objectives if you want to succeed.
Persistence in the Face of Rejection: The crowd tried to shut Bartimaeus up, but he shouted even louder. Similarly, when people criticize or castigate you, keep pushing. Consistency involves continuing despite opposition.
Listen to the Master’s Voice: Bartimaeus reached Jesus by consistently following His voice. There were obstacles in his path, but he moved forward by focusing on Jesus’ directions. Similarly, listen for divine direction and keep moving forward despite obstacles.
Overcoming Discouraging Opinions: Some people criticized me when I started preaching, saying God told them I was not a good person. Others labeled me a motivational speaker and questioned my spirituality. But I kept pressing forward, and today, I have surpassed many of those critics. Remember, hammers are blunt, but they hit nails and get the job done. Be determined and driven.
Final Words of Encouragement
Whatever is discouraging you—failures, limitations, criticisms, or obstacles—don’t give up on yourself. Keep pressing forward. As Bartimaeus did, take every opportunity to shout louder and place your demand on life.
