Greetings, I am Dr. Charles Apoki. Today, I want to share seven critical things you must eliminate from your life to excel. These insights are drawn from my reflections and personal experiences. Let’s dive in.
1. Anger
Anger is destructive and resides in the heart of a fool. To excel, you must learn to control your temper. Wisdom and self-control go hand in hand. There was a time God asked me, “Do I respond to every word you say?” That question transformed my approach to anger, especially in my marriage.
After 40 years of marriage, I’ve realized that most quarrels are unnecessary. Sometimes, I choose to buy my happiness by letting go of arguments. This principle applies not only to relationships but to all aspects of life. Anger will only sabotage your progress.
2. Vengeance
Vengeance belongs to God. When you take revenge, you assume a role that is not yours. Consider the story of Joseph; despite the betrayal by his brothers, he did not seek revenge. Vengeance is a cycle that drains your energy and diverts your focus. Break free from it and channel your efforts toward growth.
3. Flippancy
Talking too much can lead to trouble. The Bible says even a fool is considered wise when silent. Flippancy causes people to reveal secrets and make unnecessary commitments. If you are always talking, you might forget what you’ve said, leading to contradictions and conflicts. Learn to speak less and listen more. This discipline can save you from many problems.
4. Jealousy and Comparison
Jealousy and comparison are toxic. When you compare yourself to others, you risk falling into a cycle of competition and resentment. Instead of trying to match or outdo others, focus on your unique path. Avoid unnecessary criticism of others; it only exposes your insecurities.
5. Restlessness
Restlessness prevents you from focusing and meditating. Excellence requires calmness and strategic thinking. You cannot excel if you are constantly jumping from one task or opportunity to another without completing any. Prioritize, organize, and mature one endeavor before moving on to the next.
6. Easy Excitability
Being easily excitable can lead to poor decision-making. Excitability often results in impulsive actions, rash promises, and unsustainable relationships. Calm down and think things through before acting. Remember, patience and thoughtfulness are keys to long-term success.
7. Complaining
Complaining is a destructive habit that keeps you stagnant. The Israelites’ complaints in the wilderness delayed their progress and angered God. Complaining also signals a lack of gratitude and productivity. Instead of complaining, focus on finding solutions and making the best of your situation.
Conclusion
Examine your life and identify these seven elements: anger, vengeance, flippancy, jealousy, restlessness, easy excitability, and complaining. Eliminating them will position you for success and fulfillment.
Let’s start the year with purpose and clarity.
Stay blessed and excel!
