Happy New Year! As we enter this year, remember that your attitude will determine your altitude. I’m Dr. Charles Apoki, and today, I’d like to share lessons from the life of Joseph as detailed in my book, Hold On to Your Vision. Let’s explore how to rise above challenges and succeed despite opposition.
Create a Picture of Your Future
One of the first steps to success is to create a mental picture of your future. Faith demands that you forget what lies behind and press toward the higher calling ahead. When Joseph shared his dreams with his brothers and parents, they mocked him, asking, “Are you going to rule over us?” However, if God has proposed something for your life, no man can successfully oppose it. Joseph’s story teaches us that separating ourselves from iniquity and societal negativity often invites hatred. Yet, if God is for you, who can be against you?
God’s Plans Will Prevail
Joseph’s brothers sold him into slavery, but God’s purpose prevailed. Even in the midst of famine in Canaan, God orchestrated events to fulfill His promise. Similarly, in my journey, I’ve seen how God synchronizes and harmonizes opportunities to actualize dreams. When I started preaching, I was often overlooked, but unexpected opportunities arose. One day, I was called to speak at a seminar because a renowned preacher was unavailable. That single opportunity marked the beginning of my global ministry.
Your Transformation Will Speak
Joseph’s brothers didn’t recognize him when they came to Egypt for food. Why? Because he had transformed. Recognition requires insight; when God elevates you, even those who knew you before will fail to recognize the new you. Remember David’s encounter with Goliath? Saul had seen David before, but it took David’s victory for Saul to acknowledge his significance. This year, expect God to orchestrate events that will compel even your detractors to acknowledge your transformation.
Overcome Household Wickedness
Joseph’s story illustrates the reality of household wickedness. Despite helping his brothers, they conspired against him. In my own life, I’ve faced similar challenges. Family members who benefited from my father’s generosity later turned against me. Some attempted to block my progress, but I chose forgiveness and success as my response. Progress is the greatest punishment you can give to those who oppose you. Succeed despite them.
Do Good Despite Evil
One of Joseph’s remarkable traits was his ability to show kindness even to those who wronged him. He not only provided food for his brothers but also returned their money. Similarly, I’ve learned to bless those who tried to harm me. Whether it’s offering scholarships, financial support, or opportunities, I’ve chosen to overcome evil with good. This year, let’s believe God to bless us so that we can extend kindness to others, even our enemies.
Remember Your Dreams
Amidst challenges, Joseph never forgot his dreams. He remembered the visions God gave him, and they sustained him through trials. Reflecting on my journey, I’ve often revisited my dreams of global influence and impact. These dreams have kept me focused and determined.
Do you still remember your dreams? Take a moment to write them down and declare, “They will come to pass in my life.”
Prepare for Abundance
As Jacob’s family experienced famine, Joseph’s wisdom ensured abundance in Egypt. Likewise, prepare for abundance this year. Whether it’s through hard work, strategic planning, or divine intervention, expect God to prepare a table before you in the presence of your enemies.
Final Thoughts
Don’t let the wickedness of others make you bitter. Instead, rise above their negativity. Believe in your future and trust God to fulfill His promises. Remember, if a cursed king like Cain could build a city, there’s no reason you can’t succeed. This year, resolve to rise above every challenge and succeed despite opposition.
