Don’t Fight Who Has Nothing to Lose | Lessons From Queen Dami and Portable

I am your friend, Dr. Charles Apoki. I am speaking to you today from my old school, Government College, where I was molded into who I am today. Standing in front of the science laboratory block, I can see the Assembly Hall, the administrative block, the dining hall, the tennis courts, and the parade ground that has produced many great army officers and generals in this country. It is a place of memories and life lessons. Today, I want to share some vital lessons from the saga involving Portable, Queen Dami, and the legacy of the late Alaafin of Oyo.

1. Know Your Class and Responsibilities

One of the most significant lessons in life is to know your class, your responsibilities, and who you allow into your inner circle. The late Alaafin of blessed memory, a revered royal figure, should have been more selective about who he brought into his family. From what we hear, Queen Dami was neither highly educated nor skilled in any particular area. She was simply young, fair, and beautiful, which seemed to be the criteria for her entry into the royal household.

Royalty and the elite must be cautious about relationships. In fact, the elite class rarely allow their children to marry anyhow. They consider family background, exposure, education, and decency before uniting in marriage. This caution is necessary to protect reputations, legacies, and responsibilities.

2. Bringing Insects Attracts Lizards

If you bring a stick with insects into your home, do not be surprised when lizards show up to eat the insects. When you allow the wrong people into your life, they invite chaos. People who have nothing to lose will help you lose everything you have.

Queen Dami’s case is a classic example. After the late Alaafin passed on, the royalty should have taken steps to preserve his legacy and protect his widows. The Bible even encourages us to provide for such widows. However, from what we gather on social media, Queen Dami became vulnerable. She allegedly abandoned the palace at some point, apologized, and returned. Unfortunately, someone advised me recently, “There is no small demon, and there is no small venomous snake.” A person with nothing to lose can still cause significant damage.

3. Portable and Queen Dami: A Clash of Worlds

Queen Dami, vulnerable and looking for a sense of belonging, found herself in the company of Portable, the controversial and unpredictable musician. Portable, as we all know, is a street b2. Bringing Insects Attracts Lizards

with no boundaries, no barriers, and nothing to lose. He is wildly talented, but he operates in his own unconventional way.

Queen Dami should have respected her late husband, the Alaafin, and her son, who is a prince. Instead, she allowed herself to fall into the spotlight for the wrong reasons. She entered Portable’s world, and instead of staying calm, she escalated matters on social media.

4. Don’t Start Battles You Can’t Finish

When Portable cautioned Queen Dami for being on Instagram late at night, his words were clear: she was behaving like a married woman. Instead of taking it calmly, she responded in a way that triggered the street boy in Portable. Portable, as expected, retaliated with his signature style—loud, brash, and unapologetic. He called her names, released derogatory statements, and made the conflict a public spectacle.

Portable is unpredictable and relentless. If he quarrels with a traffic officer, he can make it into a song. If he eats a good meal, he can turn it into a hit track. Now, Portable has released his “Goodbye to Jaga Jaga” song, and Queen Dami cannot match his energy or influence.

The lesson here is simple: don’t open your face and put your hand in a beehive. If you get stung, the foolishness is yours. Queen Dami bit off more than she could chew. She picked a fight with someone who thrives on chaos, and the result was predictable.

5. Be Careful Who You Associate With

Life teaches us to be cautious about the people we allow into our lives. Be careful who you associate with, who you share your secrets with, and who you trust. A person who has nothing to lose will waste your time, drain your energy, and destroy your legacy. The late Alaafin’s case, Queen Dami’s actions, and Portable’s response remind us of the importance of guarding our circle.

Learn to walk wisely in life. Protect your space, your reputation, and your peace of mind.

Final Thoughts

The story of the Alaafin, Queen Dami, and Portable is a lesson for all of us. Royalty must preserve its dignity and legacy. People must learn to respect their class and responsibilities. And above all, never fight someone who has nothing to lose, because they will take you down with them.
