I want to address an important issue: the growing trend of people abandoning the church. Many have said they want nothing to do with the church anymore, and I’ve seen comments on social media that reflect this. But, I believe we must reconsider. As believers, we cannot abandon our Father’s business.
In Matthew 24:12, the Bible tells us that because iniquity will abound, the love of many will grow cold. Initially, I thought this referred to the world’s iniquity, but I realized it’s actually about the church. The inequity and injustice we see within the body of Christ are causing many to lose faith. Some church leaders are driven by self-interest, seeking relevance, wealth, or even power, and they contribute to the corruption in the church.
However, those who are truly friends of God are the ones who correct these misbehaviors and rebuke the injustices. Like Phinehas in the Bible, who took a bold stand against sin in the camp of Israel, these individuals strive to bring righteousness back to the church. Still, despite the issues, the Bible tells us not to forsake the assembly of believers (Hebrews 10:25).
Jesus said in Luke 2:49, “Don’t you know I must be about my Father’s business?” This statement should resonate with all believers. The church is God’s business, and we, as His children, are responsible for it. Even though the church may be flawed, walking away is not the solution. Instead, we should stay and model better behavior. We need to be examples of righteousness, setting ourselves apart from the negative trends.
Personally, I have remained a denominational man, but I also see myself as a kingdom citizen. My loyalty is to God and His work, not to the flaws of man. I’ve chosen to stay in the church to make a difference, and because of this, my views and opinions are now widely respected. People share my messages because they see that I’m consistent and committed to the cause.
If you’re disillusioned with the church, I encourage you not to abandon your Father’s business. Don’t run away from God’s work because of offense, frustration, or the actions of others. Instead, stay and provide a better model. Be an outstanding example in your community.
Remember, leaving the church doesn’t mean you stop serving God. The internet has given us incredible tools to share the gospel and impact people worldwide. For instance, some of the videos I’ve shared online have reached hundreds of thousands of people, far beyond the reach of a single church service. You can do the same—whether through mentorship, social media, or other online platforms, you can reach people globally while remaining a committed member of the church.
When I got born again, I told my friend, Dr. Kingsley Ohamae, even if I leave the faith, he should not. Jesus is real and good, and no man should drive you away from God. You are a child of God, and the world is waiting for the manifestation of the sons of God (Romans 8:19). Don’t let anyone discourage you from serving your Father.
Stay strong in your faith, serve your community, and remember that your involvement in the church is part of a greater calling. God has entrusted us with His work, and it is our responsibility to carry it forward.
