I want to talk about self-doubt and the journey to overcoming it. Many of us have faced self-doubt at some point, and I am no exception.
Growing up, I had my share of self-doubt. These feelings were often rooted in comments from parents, outsiders, and peers. Sometimes, these comments aimed to belittle me, but instead of letting them define me, I allowed them to refine me. They pushed me to excel, to be as good as, if not better than, my peers.
Recently, I had the honor of speaking at the Empowered Men’s Fellowship International Convention, organized by the Church of God Mission International and the Men’s Fellowship International. I want to thank them for the invitation and their continued support. The journey to the convention was tough, with Nigeria’s roads in deplorable states, but God kept us safe.
I often don’t know what I will say in my videos until the morning after a good night sleep. It is then that inspiration strikes. I share my experiences openly and sincerely, hoping to encourage someone out there who might be facing similar challenges.
I come from an unusually poor background. I was the first graduate in my family, the first to buy a car, and the first to build a house. My eldest son was the first to travel to Europe. Despite our humble beginnings, today, I am known all over the world. When I state these facts, it’s not boasting but showing that you can rise above your circumstances.
Self-doubt is something I struggled with for a long time. Comments from my parents, outsiders, and peers created complexes in me. Growing up in a modest house and going to school with children from affluent backgrounds made me feel inferior. But instead of letting these feelings define me, I let them refine me.
I am naturally shy and never comfortable in public spaces. Being alone is something I cherish, but my desire to be a global citizen, to have my voice heard, pushed me to overcome this shyness. I remember a Member of Parliament in the UK who, after a failed speech, declared, “It is in me, and it will come out.” This became my mantra. Despite criticism and underestimation from others, I never ignored myself or my vision.
If you’re feeling the same way, remember: it is in you, and it will come out. Write it in the comments below, and I say Amen to that.
I have never had enough resources, but I made do with what I had. I remember the small things I carried to school, the firewood I cut to make ends meet, and the people who encouraged me along the way. Despite the challenges, I persevered. God has been faithful, and today, I am here to tell you that you can overcome your challenges too.
Many times, girls rejected me, but my wife accepted me, and I am grateful for her. Our marriage started with very humble beginnings, but God saw us through.
I want to encourage you to take steps towards your dreams. You might come from a difficult background, but that shouldn’t hold you back. Be resourceful, be daring, and be consistent. Everything I have achieved is through God’s grace and determination.
We all have character flaws, but God’s grace is sufficient. Remember, it is in you, and it will come out. Be encouraged and stay blessed.
God bless you.
