The Lagos-Calabar Super Highway project. When I first discussed the Lagos-Calabar Expressway, some individuals attacked me. However, I stand by my points. Initially, I suggested moving the highway away from areas that would cause maximum demolition of private properties. Eventually, the authorities moved it to minimize destruction.
Environmental Impact:
I raised concerns about the environmental impact assessment, which hadn’t been done initially. As a result, they discovered undersea cables in the area that could disrupt telecommunications, not just in Nigeria, but in several countries. So, they shifted the road’s path again.
Internal Infrastructure:
I also questioned why not repair the internal roads or construct railway lines, like the Calabar-Lagos railway line, instead of building a new super highway. People argued, but the logic remains sound.
Policy Flip-Flops:
We are witnessing a season of policy flip-flops. For instance, they initially proposed 10 lanes, but now they want to reduce it to six lanes. This inconsistency reflects poor planning and decision-making.
Financial Mismanagement:
It took almost a decade to construct the Second Niger Bridge, and considering the numerous bridges needed for the Lagos-Calabar route, it could take a century to complete. Where will the funding come from? They plan to use pension funds, which is alarming, as many retirees have not received their pensions for years. Moreover, there are talks of buying a new private jet for the presidential fleet, further straining the economy.
Long-term Impact:
The Lagos-Calabar Expressway might end up as an abandoned project. The purpose seems to be opening a corridor for real estate development, benefiting a select few with properties along the route.
The Reality of Our Nation:
The truth is, most of the people attacking those who speak out are young individuals who don’t understand the country’s history and are paid to propagate falsehoods. This country risks ending up like Argentina or Zimbabwe if we don’t take care.
Sometimes, I feel like giving up on this country, but I have to speak the truth. Those who blindly support insanity due to tribe, party politics, religion, or region will suffer the consequences. As for me, I have nothing to lose, and I will continue to speak reality. Whether you like me or not, that’s your choice. I sleep peacefully, knowing that I am speaking the truth.
God bless you.
