A Lesson In Humility And Entrepreneurship

A visit to Hon. George Oyefia and Innocent Iyede.

I went to speak at a conference organised by Igbuku-Orogun community today on the 29th of January, 2021. The conference was billed for 10 a.m.; I got there by 9:45 a.m. in company of Samson Ojakovo and Ambassador Raymond Nduka Orogun Ugbeh, but the organisers were not set.

So we visited Hon. George Oyefia, and he took us to his farm at Abbi. I was amazed at his depth of knowledge in Agriculture, though he is a lawyer.

A policeman stopped us between Orogun and Abbi, and I was amazed at his calm disposition towards the policeman. All attempts by the policeman to irritate him were calmly handled by him.

We eventually got to his farm with massive fish ponds and piggery.

On our way back, we visited Innocent Iyede, and I was shocked to see him in his bakery. If you don’t know him personally, you would think he is just an ordinary worker there.

There is a lot to learn from others.

Don’t form opinions about people until you get close to them.

Honorable George Oyefia, a two-time member of the Delta State House of Assembly personally went to his fish pond, caught some catfish, cleaned them, entered the kitchen and cooked pepper soup and plantain for us. He was all over the place to serve us.

Innocent Iyede, who had lavishly entertained us, brought cold water with his Hilux van from his eatery, which is quite some distance away.

I had to ask Hon. George Oyefia’s mother, who was around, how she raised this man who happens to be a first born.

I eventually went to speak by about 2 p.m. but I thank God for the farm fellowship I had with my team and my host because Hon George Oyefia is loaded with innovative ideas in several areas of life.

I was deeply touched with his simplicity, humility, and love for God.

I was greatly challenged.
