We continue on the transformation of Esau after considering the study on The Spirit of Esau in The Spirit of Esau, Why did God hate Esau?, The Spirit of Esau and Legacy, and The Spirit Of Esau And Recklessness, and lastly, The Seed Of Esau—Would you have forgiven Jacob?
This is the account of the family line of Esau (that is, Edom). Esau took his wives from the women of Canaan: Adah daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Oholibamah daughter of Anah and granddaughter of Zibeon the Hivite— also Basemath daughter of Ishmael and sister of Nebaioth. Adah bore Eliphaz to Esau, Basemath bore Reuel, and Oholibamah bore Jeush, Jalam and Korah. These were the sons of Esau, who were born to him in Canaan. Esau took his wives and sons and daughters and all the members of his household, as well as his livestock and all his other animals and all the goods he had acquired in Canaan, and moved to a land some distance from his brother Jacob. Their possessions were too great for them to remain together; the land where they were staying could not support them both because of their livestock. So Esau (that is, Edom) settled in the hill country of Seir.
Genesis 36:1-8.
In the passage above, the Bible records the following facts.
1. Esau had a great family.
2. Esau’s children became kings before the children of Israel.
3. He acquired animals and livestock.
4. He acquired goods in Canaan.
5. Their possessions were too great for them to remain together such that the land could not contain two of them.
6. Esau had to move away from Jacob.
I respect the transformation that took place in Esau. He learnt from his mistakes.
Any day you are ready to make amends to your life, God is ready to bless you materially and otherwise, too.
However, the choice between Esau and Jacob is beyond material wealth; it was about through whom the nation of Israel will emerge—a people He would call His own, icons of a reference point, and eventually, the salvation of humanity. The salvation was Jesus, which is the greatest choice any human can make even above material wealth and the desires of the flesh, the greatest reconciliation and forgiveness that can take place, and the best relationship between God and humanity.
